Gujarat Titans (GT) continued their stellar form in their maiden season as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in Match 43 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The Titans registered their eighth victory of the campaign while RCB has now lost three consecutive matches. Pradeep Sangwan, who last played in the IPL in the year 2018, was the pick of the bowlers for GT as he took 2/19 in his four-over spell. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia got the job done yet again with the pair chasing down the target of 171 with three balls to spare.
Speaking about how the encounter panned out, Faf du Plessis won the toss and RCB opted to bat first. They made one change with Mahipal Lomror finally getting a game this season as he replaced Suyash Prabhudessai. GT made two changes with Sai Sudharsan and Sangwan coming in place of Abhinav Manohar and Yash Dayal respectively. Virat Kohli finally struck form with the former RCB skipper scoring 58 runs off 53 deliveries.
Captain Du Plessis bagged a duck while Rajat Patidar was impressive with his quickfire innings of 52 runs off just 32 deliveries. Glenn Maxwell scored 33 runs while Lomror played a cameo as he mustered 16 runs off just eight balls to take RCB’s total to 170/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 171 for victory, wicketkeeper batter Wridhhiman Saha mustered 29 runs off 22 balls. His opening partner Gill scored 31 runs while Sudharsan scored 20 runs off 14 deliveries. Skipper Hardik could manage to score only three runs but once again Miller and Tewatia took the run-chasing responsibility into their hands. Both remained unbeaten on 39 and 43 runs respectively to guide GT to their eighth win.
Shahbaz Ahmed and Wanindu Hasaranga took two wickets apiece but RCB suffered yet another defeat. GT, with 16 points, occupies the top spot while RCB sits in the fifth position with ten points. For his match-winning innings which also included five fours and two sixes, Rahul Tewatia won the Player of the Match award.
