The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a group stage match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, to be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on May 1 (Sunday). The Yellow Army is coming to the match after losing their previous encounter against Punjab Kings by 11 runs and would look to give a strong competition to their opponents in the next match. With Ravindra Jadeja relinquishing the captaincy and MS Dhoni back in charge it would be interesting to see if CSK’s fortunes turn around now.
CSK and SRH have already faced each other earlier in this season, and the Orange Army comfortably won that match by eight wickets with 2.2 overs left. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma was adjudged the Player of the Match after playing an excellent knock of 75 runs. CSK will look to win the next match against SRH and take their revenge against the Orange Army.
However, CSK are currently languishing at the ninth spot with just two victories in their eight matches. The Men in Yellow have so far beaten only Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI). Despite losing their previous match, CSK will look to retain the same playing XI as per their last match.
Here’s a look at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Predicted XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):
Openers: Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa
After having a poor start in the tournament, CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been amongst the runs in the past few matches. The right-handed batter scored 30 runs against PBKS and played a knock of 73 runs against the Titans. However, the young batter has not been at his best in the tournament so far and would look to play a solid knock for his team against PBKS.
Just like Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa has also been in and out of form throughout the edition. So far, the senior batter has amassed 228 runs from eight matches and has struck two half-centuries with his best score being 88 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Uthappa made only one run in the previous match and would look to rectify his errors in the upcoming match.
Middle-Order: Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (c & wk)
Batter Ambati Rayudu was the lone performer for his side in the previous match as he played an excellent knock of 78 runs in just 39 balls and almost took his team over the winning line. Similarly, Shivam Dube has been one of Chennai’s consistent batters this season with 247 runs from eight matches.
The veteran cricketer MS Dhoni, who is now back at the helm, has shown the cricketing fraternity that he is still capable of playing the finisher’s role to perfection. In the last match against PBKS, Dhoni scored 12 runs in just eight balls and would like to continue his good form with the bat against the Orange Army as well.
All-Rounders: Ravindra Jadeja, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, and Dwayne Bravo
Ravindra Jadeja has not been at his best in the tournament so far. In the last eight matches, the left-handed batter has scored only 112 runs with his highest score being an unbeaten 26. South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius managed to score just one run in the last match and gave away 50 runs in his four-over quota and was wicketless.
Veteran Dwayne Bravo has been the most successful bowler for the Yellow Army in this edition so far. The right-arm pacer has scalped 14 wickets in eight matches at an average of 18.50. The 38-year-old also managed to scalp two crucial wickets in the previous match and would look to provide some vital breakthroughs in the next match.
Mitchell Santner has struggled to score runs at the number three position, and he would love to score some quick runs in the upcoming match and justify the confidence that CSK management has shown in him by promoting him to bat up the order.
Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary
Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been promising in his maiden IPL season. The Sri Lankan bowler has picked up eight wickets in the five games that he has got to play. In the previous match, Theekshana scalped a crucial wicket of skipper Mayank Agarwal and would like to continue his good form with the ball in the next match as well.
After performing extremely well against the five-time champions MI, Mukesh Choudhary could not get any wickets in the last match. He also gave away 36 runs in his four-over quota. The 25-year-old would look to scalp some crucial wickets upfront in the next match.
CSK’s predicted playing XI for the next clash against SRH: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Dwayne Bravo, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Maheesh Theekshana, Mukesh Choudhary.
