The Delhi Capitals have returned with average performances in the IPL 2022, with a total of four wins in nine league matches. The team has not been able to win even two consecutive matches and has lost momentum in every alternate match. This is primarily due to their inconsistency in both the departments of the game, they are currently at the seventh position in the points table.
In their last league match, the bowlers conceded 195, with Shardul Thakur returning as the only wicket-taker with three dismissals. In reply, the team’s openers were dismissed early. Although the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant, Rovman Powell and Axar Patel provided hefty contributions, it didn’t prove to be enough as the team fell short by just six runs.
In their next league match, the team will be up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Currently, the team is fretting over the injury concerns of their pacer Khaleel Ahmed. If he is declared fit ahead of this fixture, he might replace youngster Chetan Sakariya in the Playing XI.
Here’s a look at the Delhi Capitals’ predicted playing XI against SRH:
Openers: Prithvi Shaw and David Warner
The openers, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner provided a whirlwind start in the first half of the tournament. However, both the players are not able to string up a useful stand for the team in the last couple of matches.
Shaw has managed to score 259 runs in nine appearances at a strike rate of 159.88. Currently, he has an average of 28.78 and his last two scores were 0 and 5, that has put some pressure on the middle-order to either chase down or put up a strong total in a game.
On the other hand, Warner has been impressive to score 264 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 156.21, and is the highest run-scorer for the team. But, the southpaw failed in the last match as he managed to score just 3 runs from 4 balls and he would look to bounce back in form in the upcoming fixture against SRH.
Middle Order: Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Rovman Powell, Mitchell Marsh
The middle-order has gradually returned to form as the responsibility has been bestowed upon them to garner runs for the team. The captain and wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant has accumulated 234 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 149.04. In the last league game, he scored 44 off 30 balls and stitched an important partnership with Rovman Powell.
The Caribbean batter Powell has been terrific with his consistency in the last three matches, where his scores are read as 35, 33* and 36. In the last match, he came very close to securing a second victory for his team with his contribution in this season before being dismissed by Mohsin Khan. In total, he has contributed 135 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 162.65.
The Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh finally proved to be helpful for the team with his contribution of 37 off 20 balls, with three sixes and three fours. In three innings, he has garnered 64 runs at a strike rate of 125.49 and is the key player in the team’s batting unit.
All-rounders: Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur
Although the all-rounders of the Capitals have chipped in with contributions in both departments, they need to ace the crunch moments in a game. Lalit has contributed 137 runs in nine innings, and has four wickets with the ball as well. However, he could contribute only three runs with the bat and was struck for 16 runs off a single over in the last fixture.
So far, Axar Patel has contributed 145 runs at an average of 48.33 and has picked up four wickets. His scores in the last two matches are read as 42* and 24, he has been doing well in the lower middle-order.
Shardul Thakur bowled well in the last match and finished with figures of 3/40. He has picked up a total of seven wickets and garnered 89 runs, he certainly has a scope for improvement.
Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya
The finest bowler of the team, Kuldeep Yadav has picked up 17 wickets in 9 matches of the tournament. Whenever he has performed well in this season, the team has won that game. However, he needs to be consistent to help the team get back to winning ways to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
The left-arm pacer from Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman has picked up eight wickets in as many appearances with an economy of 7.63. His best figures of 3/18 came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). With a proven track record, Rahman will certainly be useful with his variations in this fixture.
The youngster from Saurashtra, Chetan Sakariya is yet to do well in the tournament. In two matches, he has scalped a single wicket at an economy of 8.71. With no update on Khaleel Ahmed’s injury, he is expected to feature in the match against DC.
DC’s Predicted XI for the SRH’s Clash: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Lalit Yadav, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya/ Khaleel Ahmed
