IPL 2022: Match 57 LSG vs GT, Stats Review: Rashid Khan’s best bowling figures, LSG registers second-lowest total this season, and other stats

Gujarat Titans (GT) got back to winning ways after losing two consecutive matches as they defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by a big margin of 62 runs in Match 57 of IPL 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Shubman Gill top-scored for the Titans with the batter playing through the innings for his 63 runs off 49 deliveries which included seven fours. He helped his side in posting a decent total of 144/4 while star spinner Rashid Khan took 4/24 to officially book GT’s place in the playoffs.

Talking about how the match between the new franchises panned out, Hardik Pandya won the toss and his side decided to bat first. They made three changes with Lockie Ferguson, Sai Sudharsan, and Pradeep Sangwan making way for Matthew Wade, R Sai Kishore, and Yash Dayal respectively. LSG made just one change with Karan Sharma replacing leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Wicketkeeper batter Wriddhiman Saha got dismissed for just five runs. Matthew Wade’s return to the side lasted for just seven deliveries with the Australian scoring only ten runs. Skipper Hardik’s lean run from the last few matches continued as he got out for a mere 11.

Gill looked in good touch with his half-century while David Miller and Rahul Tewatia amassed 26 and 22* runs respectively to propel GT’s score to over 140 runs. Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers for LSG for his spell of 2/26 in four overs. Chasing just 145 for victory, KL Rahul and his men struggled right from the start with Deepak Hooda top-scoring for the Giants with his 27-run knock. No other batter even crossed the 15-run mark as LSG got bundled out for just 82 runs, the second-lowest total by a side this season. Rashid Khan reached his personal milestone of 450 T20 wickets while Yash Dayal and R Sai Kishore took two wickets apiece. With this win, GT became the first side to qualify for the playoffs with 18 points to their name. LSG with 16 points remains second. For his match-winning unbeaten knock of 63 runs, Shubman Gill won the Player of the Match award.
