IPL 2022, Match 62 CSK vs GT, Stats Review: Wriddhiman Saha’s feat, Hardik Pandya’s dismal form, and other stats

Gujarat Titans (GT) dream run in their debut season continued as they defeated defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets in Match 62 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammed Shami were the star performers for the new franchise as the former remained not out on 67 runs in their run chase while Shami took 2/19 in his four overs spell. The victory booked GT’s place in Qualifier 1 and they will now get two chances for making it to the finals.
Speaking about how the match went by, skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and CSK opted to bat first. They made four changes with Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, and Maheesh Theekshana making way for N Jagadeesan, Prashant Solanki, Mitchell Santner, and Matheesha Pathirana respectively. Shami got rid of dangerous Devon Conway with a beauty of delivery for a caught behind for just five runs while Moeen Ali mustered 21 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a fighting half-century, ending his innings of 53 runs off 49 deliveries, which included four fours and a six.
Playing in his first match, Jagadeesan remained unbeaten on 39 runs off 33 balls with Shivam Dube and Dhoni making zero and seven runs respectively. 26-year-old Jagadeesan took CSK’s total to 133/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, and R Sai Kishore all took a wicket each. Chasing just 134 runs to win, Shubman Gill got dismissed for 18 runs with debutant Pathirana picking up his wicket on the very first delivery of his spell.
Matthew Wade made 20 runs while captain Hardik could only manage to score seven runs with his form fading away in the last few games. Saha played a great knock of 67 not out off 57 deliveries, which included eight fours and a maximum. He took his side home and sealed the tenth win for his side. With 20 points, GT is bossing the points table at the top while CSK endured their ninth defeat of the campaign. For his unbeaten and match-winning fifty, Saha won the Player of the Match award.
