Sitting right at the top of the points table, Gujarat Titans (GT) will take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their final group stage match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The match will be played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 19 (Thursday).
The Titans won their previous match against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a comfortable margin of seven wickets with five balls to spare. Going into the playoffs, the new entrants would look to win their final match of the group stage and keep their winning momentum intact.
The Titans from Gujarat might want to rest some of their players to get them ready for the all-important qualifier 1. As a result, David Miller, Mohammed Shami and Matthew Wade might make way for Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Dominic Drakes and Pradeep Sangwan.
Here’s a look at the Gujarat Titans predicted playing XI against Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Openers: Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill
The wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha played an excellent knock of 67 runs in just 57 balls against the defending champions CSK in their previous encounter. As a result, he was also adjudged player of the match for his wonderful batting performance. The right-handed batter will look to emulate his performance in the upcoming match as well.
Indian batter Shubman Gill got to a decent start in the previous match, but he could not convert it to a big score. Going forward, the right-handed batter would wish to perform well for the new entrants as they are now entering the business end of the tournament.
Middle Order: Rahmanullah Gurbaz
The GT team management might want to try out the talented batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the next encounter against RCB. He might replace Australian batter Matthew Wade. The 20-year-old has represented Afghanistan in 20 T20 matches and has scored a total of 534 runs at an excellent strike rate of 137.63. He has also stroked three fifties for his country and will be itching to get a chance to represent GT.
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Dominic Drakes and Rahul Tewatia
After playing some excellent knocks, skipper Hardik Pandya has not been able to score runs consistently. The right-handed batter scored only seven runs in the previous match and gave away only eight runs while bowling. Pandya holds a lot of experience and would like to use all of it and help his team to lift their maiden IPL cup in their very first IPL appearance.
Rahul Tewatia did not bowl or bat in the previous match, but he is likely to retain his position for the next match. Meanwhile, the GT team management would like to give a chance to West Indies all-rounder Dominic Drakes and give some rest to their star South African batter David Miller in the next match.
Bowlers: Rashid Khan, R Sai Kishore, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal and Pradeep Sangwan
GT bowlers had an excellent outing against the defending champions CSK in their previous match. Indian bowlers including R Sai Kishore and Yash Dayal bowled with good line lengths and would want to replicate their performances in the next match. Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami might be rested against RCB and make way for Pradeep Sangwan.
Express Pacer Alzarri Joseph and Rashid Khan were in the wicket columns against the defending champions CSK and will look to emulate their performance against RCB as well. Both bowlers have been quite economical so far and have taken some vital wickets for their team. It needs to be seen whether they can continue their good form with the ball ahead as well.
GT’s predicted playing XI for the RCB clash: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hardik Pandya (c), Dominic Drakes, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Pradeep Sangwan.
