All 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises would be busy brainstorming with the mega auction for the 2022 event being around the corner. The bidding event will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. Now, IPL 2022 will be a grand affair with two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans– coming into the picture. Moreover, the mega auction would see many existing teams going under massive revamps.

Arguably the most celebrated T20 competition worldwide, IPL has seen some exciting contest over the 22 yards. The same pushed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to expand the competition. Hence, for the very first time since the 2011 season, a total of 10 teams will fight for the title.

Where and when will the IPL 2022 mega auction be held?

IPL 2022 mega auction will be a two-day event, which will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The bidding event is scheduled to get underway at 11:00 AM IST on both days.

Where to catch the live streaming and telecast of IPL 2022 mega auction?

Star Sports Network is the official broadcaster of IPL 2022 in India and hence, will provide the live telecast of the bidding event. Fans can switch to Disney+Hotstar to catch the live streaming.

How many players will finally go under the hammer?

A total of 1214 players registered their names for the auction. While 896 were Indian players, 318 entries were from overseas. 590 players – 370 Indians and 220 overseas – made it to the final list and will go under the hammer.

What were the rules for retention and draft picks?

The eight existing teams were allowed to retain a maximum of four players ahead of the bidding event, out of which only one can be a foreign retention. As far as the two new teams are concerned, they picked three players apiece from the list of non-retained players.

All 10 franchises were allotted a purse of INR 90 crore. Depending upon their retention and draft picks, the sides have been left with different amount. Hence, they must make auction strategy as per their budget and available slots.

What is the country-wise breakdown of players taking part in IPL 2022 mega auction?

Cricketers from a total of 14 countries will land in the auction pool and it would be interesting to see what the franchise owners have for them. A total of 370 Indian players and 220 overseas players will be up for grabs. Seven players from associate nations will also have a chance of bagging an IPL deal.
