Under the leadership of veteran MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won their third match of the season against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 13 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. However, Captain Cool lost his cool over pacer Mukesh Choudhary during the final over of the match.

To note, Mukesh bowled a leg-side delivery to West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran and it was called a wide. The CSK skipper was then spotted being furious at the bowler and pointing towards the fielders set on the offside, probably indicating that he should have gone wide of off stump.

MS Dhoni left furious with Mukesh Choudhary

“I always told my bowlers, you may get hit for four sixes in an over, but the two balls that you save – ultimately in a high-scoring game – those are the two deliveries that will help you win the game,” Dhoni said during the post-match presentation.

“Because a lot of bowlers, after getting 3-4 sixes, they will be like let’s get done with it but that one boundary or even instead of sixes if you get hit for two fours that will help you in a game. I don’t know if they believe in that theory, but it works,” he added.

Coming to the match, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway thrashed SRH bowlers as the defending champions managed to post a big total of 202 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, SRH batters gave a good response to the Yellow Army as batters Abhishek Sharma, skipper Kane Williamson, and Nicholas Pooran took on the CSK bowlers.

However, it was too much to ask from the SRH batters at the end and they fell short by 13 runs. For CSK, pacer Choudhary was the pick of the bowlers scalping four wickets. Mitchell Santner and Dwaine Pretorius also scalped one wicket each. Gaikwad was adjudged the Player of the Match for his knock of 99 runs. The Yellow Army will now take on RCB in their next group stage match of IPL 2022.
