The first day of the IPL 2022 mega auction saw a successful end where various teams bagged players of their choice after aggressive bidding. As many as 590 players were set to go under the hammer wherein the majority of the big names have found a team for themselves. The remaining ones might get home for the new season on day two of the auction.

The proceedings of the IPL 2022 mega auction began on a fine tone until auctioneer Hugh Edmeades’ abrupt fall shook all and sent the auction to a standstill. However, nothing serious was reported about his health but Charu Sharma continued the proceedings after Edmeades was advised some rest.

Talking in terms of purse remaining with the players at the end of day one, CSK is sitting with a big purse of INR 20.45 crore followed by Delhi Capitals’ purse of INR 16.5 crore. The team having the least amount at the moment is LSG with INR 6.9 crore. Though CSK retained most of their core group in terms of Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, and DJ Bravo, they splashed huge money on pacer Deepak Chahar.

Mumbai Indians broke the bank to buy back Ishan Kishan

As CSK retained four players in form of MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, and Moeen Ali, they were all in need of a fine pacer. No one apart from Deepak Chahar could’ve done justice do that spot as he had been Dhoni’s go-to man with the new ball for a few years.

Other players’ who bagged attention on day one were Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Avesh Khan, Suresh Raina, etc. Mumbai Indians broke their bank to buy back Kishan at a massive INR 15.25 crore whereas KKR took away Iyer for 12.25 Crore. It was a shocker for all to see that Suresh Raina, popularly called Mr. IPL went unsold in the process.

Avesh Khan became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL’s history as Lucknow Super Giants acquired his services for INR 10 crore. Earlier in the day, Lucknow brought a partner for opener KL Rahul in form of South African star Quinton de Kock.
