The champions of the inaugural Indian Premier League in 2008, Rajasthan Royals, have since been underwhelming in the tournament. The team has boasted of top cricketers over the years in Rahul Dravid, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Steve Smith amongst many others. However, they have failed to impress as a team and would want to put out a much better show for the loyal RR fan base at the 15th edition of the IPL.

The fact that the team much like all other franchisees in the league has got the opportunity to start afresh on the back of an IPL mega auction, should give them some newly instilled energy. The new players coming in would like to bring in their very own style of play with newer perspectives. Thus, the inducement of fresher ideas and talent could do wonders for Rajasthan.

Talking of their signings, the franchisee had a decent outing at the auction. They have a talented Indian cricketer as their captain, Sanju Samson, who has been with the franchise for a while. In Jos Buttler and Ravichandran Ashwin, they possess the much-needed experience while the likes of Yashaswi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal bring in the exuberance of youth.

The Royals will be hoping to start well as this year’s edition of the IPL sees 10 teams taking part. A slow start upfront could put pressure on the team and make it difficult to come back in the latter half of the tournament given the competitive nature of the league. Over the years, the franchise has started well but have somehow had their season derailed due to some consecutive losses.

RR, like all the other teams in the tournament, will be playing 15 league matches. Their first game is against the 2016 champions Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pune on March 29th, which will be the fifth match of the 2022 IPL season.
