For KKR, their two retained spinners (Narine & Chakaravarthy) have been the bleakest performers so far. Though individually Sunil Narine has exhibited a prolific economy of 5.23, his wickets tally has been reasonable (8 wickets from 13 games). However, the other mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has just scalped 5 wickets from 10 games.

Even in the batting department, the preserved southpaw from last season (Venkatesh Iyer) has been very mediocre. Despite getting chances at different batting positions, the 27-year-old just amassed 175 runs. By averaging just 19.44, Ventakesh has also raised question marks regarding his retention.

However, Kolkata’s biggest match-winner – Andre Russell has always brought a glimmer of hope for them. Both through his batting and bowling, the all-rounder has helped KKR grab crucial wins. With his bat, Russell has muscled the ball at a lofty strike rate of 183.66. Overall in his 12 matches, the WI cricketer has also pouched 14 wickets. Optimistically, his performances will again be vital if the purple army has to qualify.
