Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to make their debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (March 28) against another debutant Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Ahead of the opening game, the franchise has announced leg-spinner Rashid Khan as their vice-captain.

Rashid is not new to leadership roles, having led Afghanistan in a few matches at the international level. He was picked by the Titans ahead of the mega auction for a whopping amount of INR 15 crore and will be keen on providing his inputs to Hardik Pandya during the season.

Gujarat Titans made an official announcement on their Instagram handle and posted an adorable picture of Hardik and Rashid having a laugh together. “In yet another #SeasonOfFirsts, Rashid bhai becomes our vice-captain,” the caption of the post read.

Meanwhile, Rashid Khan is looking forward to playing with Hardik Pandya and for the new franchise. The duo hasn’t played together ever, having represented different teams in the IPL until now, but the leg-spinner has touted the Titans skipper as the one with the positive vibes.

“He is a very nice person. We haven’t played together before but with the friendship and bond we share, it still feels like we have been playing together for years now. He is a great guy and always brings in a positive vibe whenever we talk about my game and his mindset,” he said while speaking to Boria Majumdar on the show ‘Backstage With Boria’.

The Afghanistan spinner is also keen to learn as much as he can from Hardik Pandya and is ready to share his experience with the captain, having featured in T20 leagues all over the world. “He is the captain, it will be a great opportunity for me to learn as much as possible. I will also share my experiences of playing in different leagues. “He is a new captain and this is a new team so definitely there will be so many things going on around his mind,” Rashid added.
