The ongoing IPL 2022 has witnessed some of the finest batting performances on a consistent basis which has also helped the batters find a notable mention in the Orange Cap list. However, former India head coach Ravi Shastri reckons that only two of them have a chance to win the Orange Cap award this time around. The two players in the discussion are KL Rahul and Jos Buttler respectively.

Giving further clarification on the same, Shastri said that since both of them open the innings for the Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals respectively. He also added that their batting slot and their current form will help them bag the award in IPL 2022.

Buttler has already scored three centuries

“He’s got a solid all-round game, the technique is good he’s got all the shots, great temperament, and good presence of mind. With the responsibility of leading a new franchise is getting the best out of him. You asked me at the start of the season, Orange Cap, I said KL Rahul because the openers have the best chance. So, it will be between him and (Jos) Buttler”, said Ravi Shastri while speaking on the Star Sports show Cricket Live.

“If you are an opening batsman who’s firing then your franchise is going to do well in the IPL because those are not the players at the back who come and do the damage. If you get an opener who’s firing then it’s half the job done already”, he added.

KL Rahul has so far amassed more than 300 runs in eight matches at a strike rate in excess of 140. He had scored a match-winning 60-ball 103 last week against the Mumbai Indians and once again batted superbly against the same team on Sunday (April 24).

Jos Buttler, on the other hand, is in the form of his life. He has already scored three with two of them back-to-back centuries against MI, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals respectively. The Englishman has scored 491 runs from seven outings.
