MS Dhoni has been appointed the captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) yet again in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Ravindra Jadeja had taken over from him ahead of the IPL this year. But the all-rounder has decided to relinquish the leadership duties to Dhoni yet again mid-season.
The official website of the four-time champions confirmed the news as well while and it has been told that Dhoni has decided to take back the charge of the team in the larger interest of the side. CSK are currently at the ninth position in the points table with six losses in eight games and will need to win all their remaining matches to make it to the playoffs now. Meanwhile, Jadeja has decided to concentrate and focus on his game now.
“Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game,” the statement read. MS Dhoni will now take over the captaincy reins for CSK’s next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday (May 1).
MS Dhoni has so far led CSK in 213 matches
MS Dhoni has led CSK in a whopping 213 matches so far and won six titles for the Men in Yellow, four IPL trophies and Champions League T20 twice. He has recorded 130 wins and lost 81 matches during this period and it remains to be seen if the team’s fortunes change with the change in leadership.
In the meantime, Ravindra Jadeja’s batting affected during his short captaincy stint. He has only scored 112 runs in eight matches so far this season at an average of 22.41 and a strike-rate of 121.73. His bowling also didn’t play a huge role in IPL 2022 so far with the left-arm spinner picking only five wickets at an economy of over 8.
