IPL 2022: RCB most tweeted team, Virat Kohli tops players' list

Hardik Pandya‘s Gujarat Titans may have won the IPL 2022 title, but they are not the most popular team in the tournament, not on social media platforms at least. Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered yet another heartbreaking season as they failed to lay hands on their maiden IPL trophy, but their loyal fans did not disappoint as they were one of the most popular teams on Twitter.

Although RCB did not play in front of its home crowd this season due to the pandemic, fans still supported the team in full voice. Such is the fan following of RCB that stadiums like Wankhede and Eden Gardens were encapsulated with the chants in the name of Virat Kohli and RCB.

The RCB team, led by Faf du Plessis, was the most tweeted about team in 2022. They were followed by MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings and Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians in second and third place, respectively. Kolkata Knight Riders were fourth, and finalist Rajasthan Royals were fifth in the list.

Virat Kohli, who did not enjoy the best of seasons with the bat, still was the most talked about player on Twitter. The former Indian skipper MS Dhoni quite unsurprisingly was second, followed by current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja and RCB captain Faf du Plessis completed the top five.

RCB is not the only team with a massive and loyal fanbase. MS Dhoni‘s CSK also boasts of an enormous number of fans and it was quite evident as CSK’s #whistlepodu and #yellowlove were the most used hashtags behind #IPL2022. RCB’s #playbold and #wearechallengers were fourth and fifth, respectively in the list of most used hashtags.
