IPL 2022 Retention: List of retained players, salaries, money deducted and purse remaining
Franchises, who made all four retentions, spent a sum of INR 42 crore from their salary purse of INR 90 crore.
A total of 27 players have been retained by the eight existing Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises as the deadline of the submission of the player retention list wound down on Tuesday (November 30). While there have been some surprise retentions, many prominent names have been astonishingly released by their franchises due to various reasons.
With a mega auction taking place ahead of the 2022 season, each team had the option of retaining a maximum of just four players, out of which only two can be foreigners. While many sides utilized all of their retention cards, some opted to save money for the bidding event, which will reportedly take place in late December. Meanwhile, the salaries of players are determined by the number of retentions made by their franchise.
Franchises, who made all four retentions, spent a sum of INR 42 crore from their salary purse of INR 90 crore. In this case, the first, second, third, and fourth-retained players received INR 16, 12, 8, and 6 crore respectively. Teams retaining three players spent INR 33 crore with the first, second, and third-retained player receiving 15, 11, and 7 crore respectively.
In case of two capped retentions, the first and second retained-players would have got INR 14 and 10 respectively to their players. Notably, Punjab Kings were the only side to retain two players in Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. However, the latter received INR 4 crore as he’s an uncapped player.
Although none of the sides made one retention, INR 14 crore would have been given to the privileged player if any side opted to do so. Meanwhile, there’s a slight difference in the salary amount and deducted amount of few franchises. This is apparently due to the pay cuts received by few players.
Meanwhile, let’s look at the retentions made by all eight existing IPL teams:
CSK: Ravindra Jadeja (16 crore), MS Dhoni (12 crore), Moeen Ali (8 crore), Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 crore)
