IPL 2022: Rishabh Pant fined 100 percent match fee, Pravin Amre handed one-match ban for Code of Conduct breach

On expected lines, Delhi Capitals duo Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur alongside assistant coach Pravin Amre have been reprimanded for their questionable actions during the clash against Rajasthan Royals on Friday (April 22). It was the last over of the match and the DC camp was furious as the on-field umpire didn’t adjudge Obed McCoy’s high full-toss a no-ball. Pant was evidently agitated as he even tried to call the on-field batters, Rovman Powell and Kuldeep Yadav, back.

He even sent Amre onto the field to protest against the umpire’s decision. All this drama meant the game was halted for a while. Fortunately, the contest resumed and RR walked away with a 15-run triumph. However, more than the on-field action, this infamous controversy garnered attention. IPL officials also took notice of the incident and gave their verdict.

Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, Pravin Amre found guilty of a Level 2 breach

While skipper Pant has been fined 100 percent of the match fee, pacer Shardul Thakur, who seemed on the same page with his skipper, will lose 50 percent of his match fee as a fine. Alongside paying a fine of 100% of his match fee, Amre has also faced a one-match ban for the offence. It must be noted that the trio have been found guilty of a Level 2 breach of the IPL Code of Conduct.

“Delhi Capitals captain, Rishabh Pant has been fined 100 percent of his match-fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai,” read a release issued by IPL’s official website.

“Pravin Amre, Assistant Coach, Delhi Capitals has been fined 100 percent of his match-fee for breaching the TATA Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. He will also face a one-match ban for the offence,” added the release.

Meanwhile, Pant, after the match, admitted that his actions were not justified but also asserted that DC were undone by the umpring error. “Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone in the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball. Obviously it wasn’t right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right,” said Pant in the post-match presentation.
