Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has become the second Indian and seventh batter overall to cross 10,000 runs in men’s T20 cricket. The Indian skipper reached the milestone in a group stage match played between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
To note, Rohit was just 25 runs away when he started his innings on April 13 (Wednesday) against PBKS. The batter raced past that mark in just 16 deliveries with a huge six off pacer Kagiso Rabada. However, he ended up getting dismissed off the very next ball.
Indian skipper’s long time teammate and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli had become the first Indian to reach 10,000 T20 runs during IPL 2021. It is to be noted that Kohli was the fifth player to reach that mark and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter and Australia skipper Aaron Finch was the next player to get there before the present India skipper.
Universe Boss Chris Gayle is first on the list to reach the 10,000 run mark
West Indies opener Chris Gayle was the first player to reach the five-figure mark in T20 cricket. The left-handed batter remains the highest run-scorer by quite a margin, having scored a huge 14,562 runs in 463 games. Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik (11,698), West Indies captain and Rohit’s MI teammate Kieron Pollard (11,474), Finch (10,499), Kohli (10,379) and David Warner (10,373) make up the list of players above Rohit.
It is to be noted that MI skipper Rohit is the third highest run-getter of all time in the IPL with 5719 runs in 213 innings. Left-handed batter Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 70 against MI, took his career tally to 5981 runs in 196 innings. However, these batters are still behind the run-machine Kohli, who is the all-time highest run scorer in the toughest league of the world, with 6390 runs in 204 innings.
