Rohit Sharma continued his on-field cause advocacy by entering the field, against the Rajasthan Royals in the 44th match of the IPL 2022, wearing custom-made shoes that underlined his cause of ‘End Plastic Waste’ and ‘Saving Marine Life’. In the ongoing 15th season of the IPL, Rohit has backed the cause for the third time.

Sharma, who turned 35 today, stepped onto the pitch with his uniquely crafted shoes, which had a turtle swimming in clear blue ocean waters with the words ‘End Plastic Waste’ printed on them. Sharma had previously worn a three-stripe embroidered shoe supporting the same cause during Mumbai’s game against the Chennai Super Kings.

A few days back, Rohit Sharma had shared his pictures with the shoes on his Instagram as he captioned it: “The ocean is my happy place. It’s a world like no other and it must be protected. One of the biggest threats to our ocean health is plastic! it is polluting our oceans and it’s not just our marine life that’s paying the price. Our well-being is HUGELY dependent on our oceans. No oceans, no human life. The smallest and most effective step you can take – Don’t throw trash in the ocean and stop those around you from doing so.”

Sharma has pledged to work towards the cause of cleaning the oceans, in partnership with German sportswear giants Adidas as he further wrote: “Together with @adidasIndia we are here to take charge to create a sustainable planet. For every run I score in this year’s IPL, @adidasIndia will pick up 10 plastic bottles from the beaches in Mumbai.”

Rohit Sharma’s poor form continued as he was yet again dismissed for a low score

Talking about the game, Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack was able to restrict Rajasthan Royals to a par score of 158/6 after they dismissed the in-form Jos Buttler for 67 (52) and did not let the middle-order batters hit much towards the end. Rohit Sharma’s rough patch continued in his ninth game of the season as he was dismissed for a poor score of 2 (5) during the chase and Mumbai Indians put up 41/2 in the powerplay chasing 159.
