Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans played out a thriller in the 51st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday. The five-time champions snatched a game from the Titans’ grasp in the dying stages of the game to win it by just five runs. Daniel Sams was the hero for MI who defended nine runs in the last over conceding only three keeping the likes of Rahul Tewatia, David Miller and Rashid Khan, the trio that finished games for GT for fun, at bay.
During the chase though a bizarre incident took place that got overshadowed with the final-over drama. Gujarat Titans’ batter Sai Sudharsan got out hit wicket that seemed to be the turning point of the game in the end. The left-hander was hitting the ball really well and had smashed Kieron Pollard for a six down the ground in the same over too.
However, the Caribbean all-rounder won the battle in the end, of course with the batter himself making the mistake. The incident happened off the last ball of the 16th over when the Titans needed 40 runs off 25 deliveries. Pollard, as usual, didn’t give any pace to deal with for the batter bowling a short delivery. Sudharsan tried to pull the ball fiercely and missed it.
His bottom hand came off the bat handle even as the batter went off balance only for the willow to end up breaking his own stumps. It was an extremely bizarre dismissal and the one, that gave some momentum to Mumbai Indians who eventually went on to win the game by a slender margin of five runs.

Gujarat Titans remain at the top of the points table
Meanwhile, there was no change in the points table after this match. Gujarat Titans remain at the top of the table with eight wins from 11 matches. But they botched up a great chance to seal their place in the playoffs. Nevertheless, they still have three games to go and can easily end up in the top two. On the other hand, MI won only their second game in 10 attempts and continue to languish at the bottom.
