IPL 2022: Shikhar Dhawan, Jonty Rhodes undergo unique catching session in pool
Both Dhawan and Rhodes were seen making a full-stretch dive inside the pool to take a catch.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) opener Shikhar Dhawan shared a light moment with his team’s coach Jonty Rhodes. The duo underwent a unique catching session in the pool. To note, PBKS recently beat the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their previous match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Both Dhawan and Rhodes were seen making full-stretch dives into the pool to take a catch. The duo finished with Dhawan’s trademark ‘thigh-five’ before hugging.
Dhawan shared a post on his official Instagram handle
The 36-year-old recently shared a video on his Instagram handle, with both of them enjoying their time in the pool. The left-handed batter captioned the video “Catching drill with the best @jontyrhodes8.”
Coming to PBKS’ match against MI, Punjab after losing the toss, started the innings with a bang, as both openers got to a solid start. Dhawan looked to bat for long while captain Agarwal played some exquisite shots. The opening duo added 97 runs for the first wicket within 10 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma also played a vital role for his side and scored (30 off 15 balls).
Batter Shahrukh Khan provided some impetus as PBKS finished with 198/5 in their 20 overs. Senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for MI, as he gave away only 28 runs and picked a crucial wicket of Englishman, Liam Livingstone.
Chasing 199, the Men in Blue were cruising at one stage of the innings, with young-batter Tilak Varma (36 off 20 balls) and Dewald Brevis (49 off 25 balls) taking on the opposition bowlers in the middle. However, MI lost their way in the middle, which meant that PBKS managed to win the match, despite Suryakumar’s (43 off 30 balls) scare towards the end.
West Indian pacer Odean Smith picked four crucial wickets for his side, while Kagiso Rabada (two wickets) and Vaibhav Arora scalped one wicket. PBKS will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their next group stage match. The encounter will take place on April 17 (Sunday) at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
