IPL 2022 Stats: Jos Buttler slams highest individual score in powerplay this season

Rajasthan Royals opener Jos Buttler recorded a quickfire half-century in the game against Gujarat Titans inside the first six overs and went past Prithvi Shaw for the highest individual powerplay score in IPL 2022. The wicketkeeper-batter made full use of the field restrictions and hit 54 in just 24 balls with eight fours and three sixes in his swashbuckling innings. However, Buttler was undone by a brilliant delivery from Lockie Ferguson at the end of the powerplay, and the Royals ended up losing the game by 37 runs in the end.

Prithvi Shaw’s 47 inside the powerplay against the Lucknow Super Giants was the highest individual score until Buttler’s brilliance, while Robin Uthappa is third on the list with his 45 against the Lucknow Super Giants. Buttler also has the third and fifth-highest score individual score with 46 against KKR and 40 against the Mumbai Indians inside the powerplay respectively while the Punjab Kings skipper Liam Livingstone holds the fifth place with his 38 against CSK.

Chasing a big target of 193 set by the Gujarat Titans, Royals needed a prolific start at the top of the order, but opener Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for a golden duck. However, Buttler and R Ashwin joined hands for the second-wicket partnership and the former was quite aggressive against the inexperienced Yash Dayal, who was playing his first IPL game. In no time, Buttler reached his half-century and has kept his form going so far in this edition.

Buttler, in the process of achieving the record, also moved to the top of the charts in the race for the Orange Cap with 272 runs in five games and is proving to be one of the best T20 batters in the world at the moment. The right-hander is the only centurion so far in the tournament and has been an integral part of the successful campaign for the Royals this season.
