Prediction and analysis are coming in from different parts with the deadline of the submission of retention list approaching. All the eight existing Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises have been asked to finalize their list of retained players by November 30. As a mega auction will take place ahead of IPL 2022, each team, which participated in IPL 2021, can retain maximum of just four players.

Also, a side can’t retain more than two foreign players. Hence, it would be interesting to see how teams would look after the retention list comes out. Meanwhile, former Indian and Chennai Super Kings batter Subramaniam Badrinath has named players which teams should retain as per his opinion.  Badrinath gave his opinion in a series on tweets on Sunday (November 28).

He went with Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan and T Natarajan as the players which should be retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. While Williamson and Rashid would definitely be in SRH’s plans, it would be interesting to see whether the franchises retains the injury-prone pacer Natarajan.

Subramaniam Badrinath omits Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard while picking MI’s retained players

Meanwhile, Badrinath reckons Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) should utilize all their four retention cards to get Andre Russell, Shubman Gill, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy on board. Notably, the former right-handed batter also said he won’t be too hasty with Venkatesh Iyer, who’s new to the circuit.

Speaking of his former team CSK, Badrinath went with MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf Du Plessis as his retentions. As far as Mumbai Indians are concerned, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah – Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton De Kock were Badrinath’s list. Interestingly, the 41-year-old didn’t go with Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan or Kieron Pollard.

Opining on Royal Challengers Bangalore, Badrinath believes Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel should be retained. For the unversed, Kohli has stepped down as RCB captain and the franchise would need to look for a leadership option in the auction event.

Notably, two new teams – based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively – would come in the picture in IPL 2021. They’ll get a chance to pick a maximum of three players from the list of non-retained players ahead of the mega auction.
