IPL 2022: Team-wise list of coaching staff for this season

All franchises have roped in some legendary cricketers in their coaching staff in order to win the 15th edition of IPL.

The job of coaches in a game of cricket is certainly quite exhausting, but a rewardable one. They hold the responsibility to steer the experienced players in the right direction and groom youngsters to help in building their careers. The coaches also play a primary role in developing synergies within the team, thereby holding the team together in times of highs and lows of the game.

The Indian Premier League 2022 is just around the corner, and all the franchises have put together strong coaching and support staff to excel in a 2-month tournament. Most of the franchises have sought to keep the same head coaches as of the last edition to keep a strong connection with the retained players.

The 2 new franchises in Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have brought in experienced individuals into their debut campaign as well.

Here’s the Full List of Coaches of Each Team in IPL 2022.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

The Ravindra Jadeja-led franchise will be looking to defend the title in an emphatic manner this season. The team management tried well to bring back their core players like Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, and Ambati Rayudu at the IPL 2022 mega auction. They have put trust in the same individuals in the coaching roles, who helped them lift the IPL 2021 title.

Bowling coach: Lakshmipathy Balaji

All the 3 key coaches have featured for the Chennai Super Kings team in the Indian Premier League in the past. The former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming is the head coach of the team since 2009 and has been quite successful in taking the team to the playoffs for a record number of 9 occasions.

Often called as ‘Mr. Cricket’, Michael Hussey is the batting coach, and former Indian speedster Lakshmipathy Balaji will handle the responsibility of being bowling coach of the CSK team in IPL 2022.

2. Mumbai Indians (MI)

The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians will again be led by the top order batsman Rohit Sharma. Although the team had an average outing in the last edition finishing 5th in the points table, the franchise will still have the same group of coaches, who will guide the team in this season as well.

Director of Cricket Operations: Zaheer Khan

The former Sri Lanka great, Mahela Jayawardene will be the head coach, and the brain behind execution of different plans set out by the team. Robin Singh is the batting coach of Mumbai Indians for the past several years in the IPL.

One of the fastest fast bowlers in the first decade of this century, Shane Bond is the bowling coach of the MI team. The cricket operations at Mumbai Indians are overseen by the former fast bowler Zaheer Khan. With all these legendary figures in the coaching staff, MI will definitely be looking to win the trophy for sixth time.

3. Delhi Capitals (DC)

The Delhi Capitals team have reached the playoffs for the last 3 editions of the Indian Premier League. The team will be led by wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant in this season as well. But, the team has made changes in the coaching staff, who are likely to have an impact on the team’s performances in IPL 2022.

Fast Bowling Coach: James Hopes
Assistant Coach: Ajit Agarkar, Shane Watson

The 2-time World Cup-winning captain, Ricky Ponting is the head coach much like last few editions and would look to churn out plans for players to go a few steps further in lifting an IPL title. The renowned personality in the Indian domestic circuit, Pravin Amre is the batting coach of the Delhi Capitals.

The fast bowling spearhead of the Delhi Capitals will be James Hopes, who has had a successful stint in the past for the franchise. The team has also included experienced former international players, Ajit Agarkar and Shane Watson as their assistant coaches in place of Mohammed Kaif.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The runner-ups of the IPL 2021 season, made a great turnaround in Phase 2 of the tournament. The credit was given to the players and coaching staff for maintaining their cool after a disappointing first half of the season. Rightfully, the team will have the same coaching staff for the Indian Premier League 2022 as well.

Bowling Coach: Bharat Arun

The former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman and the first centurion in the IPL history, Brendon McCullum is the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders and has been quite vocal about the player’s performances. The team’s assistant coach is Abhishek Nayar, who has been helping young cricketers of Mumbai in the last few years as well.

The mentor of the KKR team is the experienced Australian cricketer David Hussey. In January 2022, Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Bharat Arun as their bowling coach, after he completed his stint with the Indian national cricket team.

5. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

The Rajasthan Royals have been quite an unsuccessful side in IPL history. But, this time around, they have bought quality players, who can deliver for them in crunch situations. They have inducted an IPL great into their coaching staff, who can be a perfect guide for the fast bowlers.

Batting coach – Amol Mazumdar
Bowling Coach – Lasith Malinga
Fielding Coach – Dishant Yagnik

The former Sri Lanka wicket-keeper and captain, Kumar Sangakkara will continue to be the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals. The batting coach has also been kept the same, with Mumbai’s renowned batsman Amol Mazumdar holding the responsibility.

The Rajasthan Royals sprung an exciting surprise when they appointed the leading wicket-taker in Indian Premier League history, Lasith Malinga as their fast bowling coach for this season. The fielding coach of the team will be Dishant Yagnik, who has also been a wicketkeeper of RR in the past.

6. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

SRH were in the news for all the wrong reasons last season. They didn’t qualify for the playoffs for the first time in many seasons. Moreover, David Warner‘s ouster as the captain and then from the team didn’t go down well with the fans as well. The franchise has made considerable changes to their coaching staff and has brought onboard some legendary cricketers.

Spin Bowling Coach – Muttiah Muralitharan
Pace Bowling Coach – Dale Steyn

The head coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad will be Tom Moody, who has been serving the franchise for the last few years as well. Former West Indies batsman, Brian Lara will use all his knowledge and experience to guide the players on many aspects of batting, as his first coaching tenure in the Indian Premier League.

The team has legendary players in terms of bowling coaches for the IPL 2022. The spin bowling coach will be the great Muttiah Muralitharan, while fast bowlers of SRH will have the opportunity to learn from Dale Steyn this season.

7. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been devoid of any title in the tournament’s history but still have a massive fan following majorly due to the presence of run-machine Virat Kohli. The team management has appointed Faf du Plessis as their new leader while keeping the core of the coaching staff the same for IPL 2022.

Spin coach – Sridharan Sriram

The cricket operations of the Royal Challengers will continue to be looked at by Mike Hesson. After the last season got concluded, Sanjay Bangar was appointed as the head coach of the team for the IPL 2022, given his experience with the Indian team and fine-tuning with Virat Kohli.

The bowling coach of the team is Adam Griffith, who has donned this role for the last few years while Sridharan Sriram holds the responsibility of building quality spin bowlers for the team.

8. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

The Punjab Kings have often put up a strong squad every year, but have failed to ace crunch moments. With Mayank Agarwal as their new captain, they would look to be potent with their performances and bring their first trophy home in the Indian Premier League.

The legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble will be in charge of Cricket Operations and will also be the head coach of PBKS. Former English domestic cricketer Julian Wood has been given responsibility as the batting consultant for the team in the IPL 2022 season.

The bowling coach of the Punjab Kings is the Australian Damien Wright, who was with the team last year as well. Jonty Rhodes will take up the role of the assistant coach due to his terrific effect on the fielding efforts of the players in the last season.

9. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

The Lucknow Super Giants will be playing their debut season under the leadership of ever-consistent KL Rahul, who also led the Indian team in the recent international series against South Africa. The team boasts of an experienced batch of support staff, who have rich experience in international cricket.

Mentor: Gautam Gambhir
Head Coach: Andy Flower
Assistant Coach: Vijay Dahiya
Bowling Coach – Andy Bichel

The 2-time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir will be the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 while Andy Flower will be the head coach of the team, who has been a key man behind the success of the various teams in franchise cricket for the last few years.

The assistant coach of the team is former Indian wicket-keeper Vijay Dahiya, and the former Australian fast bowler Andy Bichel will be the bowling coach of the team.

10. Gujarat Titans (GT)

The second team to make their debut in the Indian Premier League is Gujarat Titans, who will be captained by all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The team certainly has put together an experienced set of individuals, who can help the team to start off their campaign well.

The former England batter Vikram Solanki has been chosen as the Director of Cricket, primarily due to owners CVC Capital Partners, who are also of British origin. The experienced Ashish Nehra has been given the opportunity to be the head coach of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022.

The batting coach and mentor of GT will be Gary Kirsten, who was also the coach of the Indian cricket team in the 2011 World Cup. The player who featured for the Indian team in the last decade of the 20th century, Aashish Kapoor will be the bowling coach for IPL 2022.
