Mumbai Indians took on Rajasthan Royals in the ninth match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday (April 2). While the Royals had started their tournament with a win, the five-time champions desperately needed to get two points on the board. However, their bowlers leaked 193 runs in the 20 overs with Jos Buttler smashing them left, right and centre.

Having said that, Mumbai Indians also did well in the chase taking the RR bowlers head on with their power hitting. Though Rohit Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh got out early, the duo of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma got MI back into the game with a brilliant partnership for the third wicket. They added 71 runs in nine overs together before the former got out. However, Tilak continued to play his shots and impressed many with his hitting.

Meanwhile, during the 12th over, the youngster smacked a brilliant shot which went for a six and almost took down the cameraman in the process. It happened off the fifth ball of the over when Riyan Parag was bowling. The spinner delivered the ball in Tilak Varma’s arc and the man effortlessly lofted it over the long-off fielder.

However, the cameraman was right at the place where the ball was about to land and it ended up hitting him on the shoulder. Thankfully, the ball didn’t hit him on the head and there was no damage done. Rather he was back to work for the next delivery soon.

Tilak Varma impresses with his 61-run knock

Tilak Varma had played a brief knock of 22 runs off 15 balls in the first game against Delhi Capitals but showed off his range of hitting in the game against RR. He came out to bat when MI were in trouble at 40/2 after four overs, chasing down 194 runs. But he came out and played his shots effortlessly. It was all class written on the shots he played during the brilliant innings.

The 19-year-old didn’t fear to take on the bowlers like Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Ashwin bringing up his half-century. However, just when one felt that he will win the game for MI on his own, the latter castled him with a brilliant loopy delivery. Nevertheless, it was a super knock from the youngster scoring 61 runs off just 33 balls.
