IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap lists after PBKS vs CSK
PBKS batter Shikhar Dhawan was excellent with the bat scoring 88* runs in just 59 balls
Punjab Kings (PBKS) managed to beat the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 25 (Monday). CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja won the toss and opted to have a field first. Skipper Mayank Agarwal (18 off 21 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (88* off 59 balls) provided a slow but steady start to PBKS. The opening duo stitched 37 runs before the captain was sent back to the pavilion.
Sri Lanka batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa (42 off 32 balls) stitched an excellent 110-run stand before Rajapaksa got out. However, Dhawan continued his excellent batting performance and was joined by England hard-hitter Liam Livingstone. The right-handed batter played some lusty blows before he was scalped veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.
Both Dhawan and Bairstow provided a decent finish to their team as PBKS ended on 187/4 in their 20 overs. For CSK, Bravo (two wickets) and Maheesh Theekshana (one wicket) were the successful bowlers. Barring New Zealand bowler Mitchell Santner, who gave away only eight runs in his two overs, every bowler in the CSK line-up at least gave eight runs per over.
Chasing 188, CSK top-order failed again
Chasing 188, CSK batters Robin Uthappa (1 off 7 balls), Mitchell Santner (9 off 15 balls) and Shivam Dube (8 off 7 balls) failed to get going. However, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu kept CSK in the game. Gaikwad went back to the pavilion after scoring 30 off 27 balls.
However, Rayudu (78 off 39 balls) continued his power-packed performance before he was cleaned up by pacer Kagiso Rabada. Both Rabada and left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh were outstanding as they bowled some tight lines during the death overs. All-rounder Rishi Dhawan was given the task of defending 27 runs in the last over and he managed to halt the CSK innings at 176/6 in their 20 overs.
PBKS after beating the Yellow Army has reached the sixth position in the points table. Meanwhile, CSK continues to languish at the ninth spot. Gujarat Titans (First), Sunrisers Hyderabad (Second), Rajasthan Royals (Third), and Lucknow Super Giants (Fourth) complete the top four teams in the points table.
