IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap lists after RR vs MI
Jos Buttler played an excellent innings of 67 runs in just 52 balls for RR but went in vain.
Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their first victory after suffering eight losses in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after beating the in-form Rajasthan Royals in their group stage encounter on April 30 (Saturday).
MI skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. RR batters Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal gave a decent start to their team, but Padikkal was scalped by Hrithik Shokeen. Skipper Sanju Samson hit a couple of boundaries and then departed on a score of 16.
New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell along with Buttler took the score past 90 runs before he was dismissed by Australian pacer Daniel Sams. Buttler unleashed himself against Shokeen and hit him for four maximums in an over. However, the right-handed batter was dismissed in that very over.
Ravichandran Ashwin gave an excellent finish to his side as he stroked 21 runs in just nine balls. As a result, RR managed to reach 158 in their allotted 20 overs. For MI, Shokeen (two wickets), Riley Meredith (two wickets), Sams (one wicket), and Kumar Kartikeya (one wicket) were amongst the wickets.
Birthday boy Rohit Sharma failed yet again
In reply, skipper Rohit failed yet again as he managed to score just two runs before getting scalped by Ashwin. The other opener Ishan Kishan blasted his way through to 26 runs before pacer Trent Boult got the better of him. The man in form, Suryakumar Yadav (51 off 39 balls), and youngster Tilak Varma (35 off 30 balls) were impressive for the Men in Blue and Gold.
However, both of them were sent back to the pavillion in quick succession and left the task for the two finishers, Kieron Pollard and Tim David, who ensured that MI reached close to the target and the finishing touches were given by Sams in the last over. For RR, Prasidh Krishna, Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, and Kuldeep Sen scalped one wicket each for their side.
MI have finally opened their account in the points table. Meanwhile, RR is placed second. GT, LSG, and SRH are the other top three teams in the points table.
