Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) managed to come on top in a group stage match of IPL 2022 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played on April 19 (Tuesday). RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was adjudged the Player of the Match for his excellent performance with the bat.
LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl first. RCB lost two early wickets of Anuj Rawat (4 off 5) and former skipper Virat Kohli (0 off 1) in the very first over. However, skipper Du Plessis (96 off 64 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (23 off 11 balls) made a recovery after facing the early jolts.
Maxwell, after hitting some lusty blows, perished soon, while young batter Surya Prabhudessai couldn’t hang around for long. Skipper Du Plessis was then joined by Shahbaz Ahmed (26 off 22 balls) and the pair kept finding the boundaries in a partnership of 70.
Once the left-handed batter was dismissed in the 16th over, wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik came in and gave the strike to his skipper who was going all guns blazing. As a result, RCB finished on 181/6. Karthik remained unbeaten on 13 off eight balls. For LSG, foreign pacers Dushmantha Chameera and Jason Holder scalped two wickets each.
LSG gave a tough fight but failed
LSG, on the back of some crucial knocks from skipper Rahul (30 off 24 balls), Krunal Pandya (42 off 28 balls), and Marcus Stoinis (24 off 15 balls), gave some tough fight. However, that was not enough for the new entrants to chase down the total. For RCB, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers, scalping four wickets in his four-over quota. As a result, RCB managed to beat LSG by 18 runs.
After winning tonight’s game, RCB have claimed the second spot in the IPL 2022 points table. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (First), Rajasthan Royals (Third), and LSG (Fourth) complete the top four teams in the points table.
