The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to get underway on March 26 and fans can’t keep their calm. This year’s tournament is set to be a grand affair with two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans – coming into the picture, making IPL a 10-team competition. Another reason why IPL 2022 will be different from previous seasons is that neither Virat Kohli nor MS Dhoni will lead their respective teams.
While Kohli quit RCB captaincy following the conclusion of the last season, MS Dhoni stepped down from the role on the eve of the opening clash this season. Nonetheless, the two talismanic cricketers will continue to offer their services as players. Meanwhile, on Friday (March 25), Kohli and Dhoni caught up during a practice session at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni are known to share a great bond
In a video, which has now gone viral, Kohli can be seen walking towards Dhoni, before giving him a warm hug. The official Twitter page of the RCB also shared pictures of the duo with the caption reading: “Just a couple of LEGENDS catching up at practice.”

It must be noted that Kohli and Dhoni are known to share a great bond and the duo never hold back while praising each other. Soon after Dhoni stepped down as CSK skipper on March 24, Kohli took to social media and penned a heartfelt note for the former Indian captain. “Legendary captaincy tenure in yellow skip. A chapter fans will never forget. Respect always,” wrote Kohli while sharing a picture of him hugging the 40-year-old.

Meanwhile, former CSK opener Faf du Plessis will lead RCB this season, aiming to take the three-time finalists to the elusive title. On the other hand, Dhoni has handed over the reins to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been an integral part of the franchise since the 2012 season. Meanwhile, IPL 2022 will get underway with the opening clash between CSK and KKR at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
