Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians by seven in the 18th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday (April 9). After restricting the five-time champions to 151 runs after opting to bowl first, RCB were propelled by Anuj Rawat’s brilliant half-century. Even Virat Kohli would’ve scored his first half-century of the season only to be denied by Dewald Brevis who pinned him in front of the stumps.

He challenged the decision of the on-field umpire and the replays weren’t conclusive enough for the third umpire to decide whether the ball hit the bat or pad first. To the naked eye, it felt if the ball had hit the bat first but at the same time, Kohli’s front pad was close as well. With no conclusive evidence to overturn the decision, the third umpire went with the on-field umpire and upheld the decision much to the disappointment of the batter.

Clearly, the former RCB skipper wasn’t pleased with the decision and he vented his frustration while walking back to the dugout. Virat Kohli was looking good in the middle and seemed determined to finish off the game for his side. But he had to walk back for 48 runs off just 36 deliveries with five fours to his name. RCB needed only 8 runs to win when he got out and they easily got over the line in the 19th over of the innings itself. His reaction to the dismissal while walking back has also gone viral on social media.

MI succumb to their fourth loss of the season

Meanwhile, even as RCB chased down 152 runs to register their third win of the season, Mumbai Indians succumbed to their fourth successive loss of the season. Two of the most successful teams in the history of the IPL, MI and CSK, have now lost all their four matches this season so far and are languishing at the bottom of the points table. Both sides will have to improve their performance significantly in order to make it to the playoffs as time is running out fast for them now.
