IPL 2024: 3 changes Sunrisers Hyderabad should make to get back to winning ways
Chennai Super Kings have now leapfrogged Sunrisers Hyderabad in the league standings with this win.
At the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings hosted the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 46th game of the Indian Premier League 2024. The hosts were batting first and due to a great innings from skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, the side was able to score 212 runs after their 20 overs. Some great knocks from Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell also contributed to the total in Chennai.
In response, the Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their top order cheaply and were struggling to keep themselves ahead in the chase. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were not able to keep up with the required run rate. Tushar Deshpande was the star of the bowling as he took four wickets in his three overs. In the end, Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 78 runs.
Ahead of their next game against the Rajasthan Royals, let us take a look at the changes that Sunrisers Hyderabad should make.
Here are the three changes that Sunrisers Hyderabad should make ahead of their next game:
3. Start Umran Malik
Umran Malik was once touted to break the record for the fastest delivery in the game after a sublime IPL season. But the pacer has not been able to do so as he has lost his confidence.
With the team struggling to take wickets during middle overs, the franchise might give him a go in the side for the upcoming games. He can be drafted into the team in place of either Jaydev Unadkat or Bhuvneshwar Kumar as they both have been inconsistent with their performances
2. Bring in Glenn Phillips
Glenn Phillips might be the missing piece for the Sunrisers Hyderabad as he can add much-needed balance and quality to the side. He can bowl great off-spin and his aggressive intent can keep the runs flowing during the middle overs for the team.
Moreover, his fielding abilities are almost unparalleled in the tournament and would be able to take some stunning catches in the outfield. He can be drafted into the team instead of Aiden Markram who is still searching for a good knock for his side.
1. Middle order to take responsibility
The middle order of the Sunrisers Hyderabad has come under immense scrutiny of late. The previous two matches haven't gone to plan for the franchise and they have failed to chase yet another total.
The openers were bound to fail once or twice due to the aggressive approach that they had adopted which would effectively put the onus on the middle order to perform. But sadly the batters have not been able to take the responsibility and play a good knock for their side when they are put under pressure. This is surely going to be one of the talking points in the team meetings for the franchise going forward.
