IPL: 5 Players who once played for Kings XI Punjab

Kings XI Punjab has been one of the most loved franchises in the Indian Premier League. Largely owned by the Bollywood diva Preity Zinta and the Ness Wadia of Bombay Dyeing. The team has probably been one of the mid-table teams. They have not achieved much over the years with the most highest of their achievements being the runners up of the 2014 edition of this cash-rich Indian league. The Mohali-based franchise has since finished last for two successive seasons having lost some senior players and not having a purse big enough to replace them, they have struggled a bit. However, they have fielded some amazing talents over the years. Some of them who went on to make it big for other teams while some have just faded away in the lanes of our memory. Here are five players who once played for the Kings XI Punjab: 1. Simon Katich Simon Katich. (Photo Source: Twitter) Simon Katich, a rare kind of technician of the game once tried his hand in the Indian Premier League. This Australian left-handed batsman was a character on the field and had his own way of batting. He played eleven matches in all of his IPL career. All of those matches have been played for this Punjab-based franchise. He has a decent record, scoring 2 half centuries with a high score of 75. Katich was one of the senior members of the team and played a role of mentor as well. He scored 241 runs of the Kings XI Punjab at a strike rate of 129. He later went on to become the assistant coach of Kolkata Knight Riders. 2. Ravi Bopara Ravi Bopara. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Ravi Bopara featured for the Kings XI Punjab for two seasons in a row and was somewhat forgotten ever since before making a comeback in 2015. This right handed batsman is an explosive kind and also bowls some medium pacers which are very handy. There were a few all-rounders of Ravi Bopara’s caliber back then but he couldn’t do justice to his ability even in the international cricket. He played 15 matches for the men in grey and pink scoring three fifties at an average of 25. His seldom bowled for this franchise but managed five wickets for them. Bopara was last contracted to an IPL team in 2015 when he played for the Hyderabad-based franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. 4. Piyush Chawla Piyush Chowla. A right arm leg spinner with some good variations and a handy lower order batsman has played for India as well. He was also the part of the 20011 world cup winning squad. This man has played 85 matches for KXIP taking 84 wickets. For a spinner that is quite impressive. He also scored quite a few runs for them. In 2013 he was not up to the mark and that made the owners decide against him. He is currently contracted with KKR. He also the scored title winning runs for KKR in 2014 against the team he previously played for. 4. Irfan Pathan Irfan Pathan. He performed his best for Punjab as he was one of the very few experienced players in the team. The Baroda-lad played for this franchise until 2010 before being picked up by Delhi Daredevils. He has played a total of 102 games in the IPL and is one of the finest all-rounders India have produced in some years. Pathan took 80 wickets and has scored over a thousand runs in the IPL. However, he was unlucky not to find a team in this year’s auction as he was released by the Pune-based franchise. 5. Yuvraj Singh Yuvraj Singh. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Yuvraj Singh has achieved almost everything in his career. From winning the player of the series for India in 2011 world cup to hitting six sixes in an over in 2007 world cup. This man has achieved almost everything. Yuvraj captained the KXIP side until 2010 and was later picked up by Pune Warriors in 2011. The man from Chandigarh scored a total of 894 runs for them at an average of 24. Yuvi also led them to a semifinal in the inaugural season. He is currently contracted with Sunrisers Hyderabad with whom he won the league last season.
