The Australian fast-bowler has sort of made a name for himself through his good performances in T20 cricket. He has been famous for his stints with Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the Indian Premier League and Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. In 2018, he won the purple cap by picking up 24 wickets during his appearance for Punjab.

However, his first exposure to the IPL was way back in 2015, when CSK purchased his services for that season. However, he was not given a cap and sat on the benches for most of the season. With the availability of players like Dwayne Bravo, Faf du Plessis, Brendon McCullum, and Dwayne Smith, CSK was forced to have a bowling attack with Indian players.

Tye eventually made his IPL debut for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in the 2017 season. On his debut, he picked up a hat-trick and since then, became a popular and recognizable face in India. In the 2021 season, he was with the Rajasthan Royals before he flew back to Australia due to his concerns around the COVID situation in the country.
