IPL: 5 trades that turned out to be blunders in the tournament
These players have been released by their original franchise, and are now performing to their potential for their new teams.
3. Rahul Tewatia (DC to RR)
All-rounder Rahul Tewatia has been one of Rajasthan’s most valuable players with both bat and ball throughout the season. Even though the Royals finished last in the league stage, he has been a huge asset to look forward to in the near future for them. He has scored 366 runs in 23 innings at a strike-rate of close to 135. With the ball, he has taken 24 wickets in 34 matches at an economy rate of 7.13.
Delhi traded Mayank Markande and Rahul Tewatia before the season for Ajinkya Rahane. This proved to be a huge boost for Rajasthan Royals, for whom Tewatia single-handedly won two to three matches from crunch situations. He scored 255 runs at a strike-rate of 139.44 and picked up 10 wickets at an economy rate of seven.
The reason this proved to be a blunder for Delhi is that they ended up lacking the services of a proper finisher in the slog overs. Stoinis has had a couple of great games, but he has mostly blown hot and cold. Shimron Hetmyer wasn’t able to maintain his consistency for long amounts of time. Plus Delhi needed a good leg-spinner after the injury of Amit Mishra.
