IPL All-Stars match postponed to end of tournament, confirms IPL GC Chairman Brijesh Patel
Earlier, reports had emerged that the game was called off.
The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently announced that an IPL All-Stars match for charity purpose will take place ahead of the upcoming 2020 season. There were also reports that the game will take place on March 25 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. However, the IPL Governing Council Chairman Brijesh Patel has now confirmed that the much-awaited fixture has been postponed and will now take place at the end of the IPL 2020 season.
Earlier on Thursday, reports emerged that the game has been called off due to the franchises’ reservation to release their key players ahead of the season. They were worried about an injury to the players just before the commencement of the tournament.
But Brijesh Patel has dismissed the reports of the match being called off. Rather he has told Cricbuzz that the reason for the postponing the one-off fixture is the team formation. “We are not calling it off, it has just been postponed to the end of the tournament. We wanted to see how the players are performing, and on the basis of that, form the teams for the All-Star match,” Patel said.
MS Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit likely to play in the same team
The All-Stars match is expected to feature players from all eight IPL franchises. As per the earlier media reports, South and West India teams (MI, RCB, CSK and SRH) will form one team and North and East India teams (DC, RR, KKR, KXIP) will form the other team. But ever since the staging of the match was announced by Sourav Ganguly, the franchises were not fine with it as they reportedly they were not informed about the same.
As far as the upcoming IPL season is concerned, the BCCI announced its schedule recently. The 13th edition of the cash-rich league is set to commence on March 29 with a game between the four-time and the defending champions Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede stadium. This time around, only six doubleheaders have been scheduled even as the league stage is stretched by a week with the final of the tournament set to be played on May 24.
