With fast-bowlers pocketing lucrative deals in the ongoing IPL 2021 auction, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has come up with a hilarious message. Over the years, the IPL has shown that a team needs a strong attack to win such a long tournament. Unsurprisingly, the quality bowlers have always been in demand with the franchises and it was proven again on Thursday.
While several batsmen, wicketkeeper-batsmen and all-rounders including the likes of Aaron Finch, Karun Nair, Alex Hales and Kedar Jadhav went unsold, five out of the six fast-bowlers from set number four which belonged to fast-bowlers managed to get IPL contracts. The first fast-bowler to get an IPL contract in the auction was New Zealand’s Adam Milne.
Mumbai Indians secured his services for Rs 3.20 crore after beating Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the race. The next pacer in the auction was Jhye Richardson and he was sold for a whopping amount of Rs 14 crore. Punjab Kings saw off competition from Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals to sign the Australia.
Richardson’s compatriot Nathan Coulter-Nile also got a lucrative contract. After Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians bid for him, the latter secured his services for Rs 5 crore. The only fast-bowler who went unsold in the set was West Indies’ Sheldon Cottrell before Delhi Capitals signed up their former pacer Umesh Yadav.
Dinesh Karthik’s hilarious reaction:
As the likes of Richardson, Milne and Coulter-Nile attracted huge bids in the auction, Kolkata Knight Riders star Dinesh Karthik took to Twitter to give a hilarious reaction. The veteran star joked that his mother had suggested him to become a fast-bowler but he ended up listening to his father’s advice and took up wicketkeeping and batting.
“My mom had suggested me to become a fast bowler , but I ended up listening to my dad 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏼♂️ . My mom always had the vision in the house, it’s pretty obvious now , isn’t it 😋,” wrote Dinesh Karthik.

Meanwhile, South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris has become the most expensive player in the IPL history after Rajasthan Royals signed him for Rs 16.25 crore. Australia star Glenn Maxwell also earned his biggest payday at an IPL auction after Royal Challengers Bangalore secured his services for a whopping Rs 14.25 crore.
