IPL captains in the first season and where are they now?

Deccan Chargers Hyderabad, the team captained by VVS Laxman in 2008 IPL edition was a star-studded team with players like Shahid Afridi, Herschelle Gibbs, Adam Gilchrist in its armoury. Yet, the team failed to make an impact in that year’s IPL and finished at the bottom of the table with just 2 wins out of 14 games in the league stage. VVS Laxman, the then captain of the Hyderabad team, is now the mentor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and is contributing immensely to the team’s success through his guidance.

Not only this but ‘Very Very Special’ Laxman is also an eminent cricket expert and commentator with Star Cricket. He alongside his wife Sailaja took forward his philanthropic work of paying back to the society by launching a foundation ‘VVS Foundation’ concerned with students who are economically and socially backwards. The former right-handed batsman is also one of the three members of BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee.
