IPL: Delhi Daredevils in talks with Anil Kumble to work as a mentor of the team

Delhi Daredevils (DD) has been one of the most underperforming teams in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite overhauling the squad, the team finished last in the points table earlier this year following which the franchise is looking at roping in some of the best in the business in the coaching staff. However, the former Indian coach Anil Kumble is likely to be roped in by the franchise as the mentor of the team for the next season.

According to the reports in Ahmedabad Mirror, it is confirmed that they are in talks with Kumble though nothing has been official yet. Parth Jindal, one of the franchise owners and the JSW head, agreed to the fact that the franchise is interested in India’s one of the best leg-spinners but also admitted that they are still convincing him to take over the position.

“We’ve touched based with him. The talks are on. If we are able to convince him, it would be great,” he told while speaking to the paper on Wednesday.

Ponting-Kumble duo to reunite?

The franchise is busy making a few changes to the management. Ricky Ponting will continue being the coach of the team like last season and is handed over all the rights to take the decisions. If at all Kumble is roped in as the mentor of the team, both of them will reunite once again for the first time after working together for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2015.

Mumbai had won the title with the duo at the helm and the Daredevils would be hoping that they will work wonders for the team with their presence in the change room. However, it remains to be seen though if Kumble wishes to join the support staff and if he does, it will be a great boost to the franchise.
