The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just a couple of weeks away and thus all eight franchises have started their preparations for the marquee event off the field too. Just like the previous seasons, the franchises are coming up with unique memes, polls, and posts on their respective social media handles to increase their engagement and fanbase.

March 19 marked a strange moment as towards the end of the day people saw three major social media apps including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook down. The Facebook-owned social media applications faced a technical issue and thus their services were down from 11 pm to 11:40 pm.

It is learned that the services were restored around 11:42 PM IST. Downdetector showed around 1.2 million reports for Instagram, while over 23,000 users posted about issues with WhatsApp on the website. Just like many other users, the IPL franchises were also left amused with this development as teams like Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Delhi Capitals (DC) took to their official Twitter handles to post hilarious memes.

The two-time champion KKR posted a meme featuring their celebrated mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy. In the picture, Varun can be seen holding his head while giving a confused and surprised reaction. The Knight Riders captioned the tweet as, “Mood when you find out WhatsApp and Instagram both are down”

DC and RR also join KKR

The Shreyas Iyer-led DC also took a jibe at the three social media platforms by tweeting that they are looking for an IPL team to chat with on Twitter since WhatsApp and Instagram are down.

“Any IPL team online? Let’s talk Crying face #WhatsappDown #InstagramDown,” DC tweeted.

Rajasthan Royals were no behind as they also showed their concern over WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. RR posted a morphed picture of their messages to Whatsapp where they are showing their concern towards the application to know whether everything is well on their side.

IPL 2021 will commence from April 9 to May 30 in India across six venues namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata.
