'IPL is similar to a World Cup' - Glenn Maxwell says he would love to participate in the league this year
The Australian star had made his IPL debut in 2012 for Kings XI Punjab. So far, he has played 69 matches in the tournament, scoring 1397 runs and taking 16 wickets.
The ICC’s announcement of the postponement of T20 World Cup 2020 has given the BCCI a go-ahead to host the much-awaited IPL 2020 in that window. The cash-rich league, after being postponed in March amid COVID-19, is set to be hosted in UAE from September.
The BCCI has confirmed that they are ready to organise the tournament in UAE from September to October. However, the richest cricket board is still waiting for the government clearance before making a final call over the feasibility of this year’s IPL.
With the possibility of IPL 2020 strengthening with every passing day, Australia’s Glenn Maxwell, a part of Kings XI Punjab, has said that he is prepared for the tournament after the long quarantine period and is ready to be a part of it. Maxwell was snapped up by the Punjab franchise for a whopping INR 10.75 Crore in the IPL 2020 auction.
He also pointed out that the overseas players get a ‘kick’ by plying their trade in the IPL. A total of 17 cricketers from Australia are associated with their respective franchises for the thirteenth edition of the cash-rich league.
I would love to be available for IPL: Glenn Maxwell
The Australian star had made his IPL debut in 2012 for Kings XI Punjab. So far, he has played 69 matches in the tournament, scoring 1397 runs and taking 16 wickets. Maxwell also rued to the postponement of T20 World Cup 2020 which was slated to take place in Australia this year.
“Any time you have a home World Cup you are certainly looking forward to it. We felt like we had been building towards it as a T20 side,” the all-rounder told Foxsports.
“You wait and see (with the IPL), waiting on the judgments of other people, what you can and can’t do with travel and quarantine times and all that, if everything gets ticked off there I have no real reason no to go.
The overseas guys get a hell of a kick playing in it, some of the best players in the world rubbing shoulders, similar to a World Cup, but on a smaller scale. If everything gets ticked off I would love to be available for it,” added Maxwell.
