Ever since the inception of T20 format, the way the game of cricket is played has tilted significantly, especially for the batters. While in the traditional formats, batters with textbook shots and defensive stroke play were preferred supreme, it has become completely opposite in 20-over variant of the game. The best of the T20 Leagues has been the Indian Premier League (IPL), which began in 2008, and in the very first encounter between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), ace batter Brendon McCullum had marked the commencement of a revolutionary tournament.
Since then, each edition has been breaking several records year-after-year. The first player to cross a tally of 300 sixes is Chris Gayle, who has represented teams like RCB, Punjab Kings, and KKR previously. His 175 off 66 is also the highest individual score in the history of the cash-rich tournament. A total of 622 maximums were hit in the inaugural edition, where Rajasthan Royals became the ultimate winners.
Chris Gayle has hit a whopping 357 sixes which are the most among all the players to have played in IPL history.
