If you thought that T20 cricket was all about hitting sixes, switch hits and reverse sweeps, the Delhi Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) proved that even low scoring matches can keep fans at the edge of their seats. And in the end, the Delhi Capitals beat the Chennai outfit with 3 wickets and 2 balls to spare.

Chasing a target of 137, the Delhi openers, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan put on a 24-run partnership off 2.3 overs. Shaw was dismissed for a breezy 18 by Deepak Chahar. Shreyas Iyer struggled to find momentum, and was dismissed for just 2 off 7 deliveries.

Birthday boy Rishabh Pant could not set the stage on fire, and departed for 15 runs. Ripal Patel went for a big shot off Ravindra Jadeja, and departed for a 20-ball 18. Ravichandran Ashwin’s stay out in the middle lasted for just 3 balls, and the right hander was cleaned up by Shardul Thakur for 2 runs.

Shikhar Dhawan applied himself, and scored 39 off 35 deliveries. And, after the dismissal of Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer scored 28* off 18 deliveries to ensure that the Delhi side went past the finish line.

With the ball, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur scalped 2 wickets each, while Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo and Josh Hazlewood scalped a wicket each.

Chennai Super Kings stutter to 136/5

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) produced a mediocre performance with the willow. Batting first, the MS Dhoni led side could only score 136/5 in their allotted 20 overs. The ‘Men in Yellow’ lost wickets at regular intervals, and none of the CSK batsmen could infuse momentum into the innings.

Both CSK openers fell within the first 5 overs. While Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a run-a-ball 13, Faf du Plessis scored 10. Robin Uthappa scored 19 at a strike rate of 100, while Moeen Ali departed for 5.

Ambati Rayudu top scored for the CSK side with a 43-ball 55*, and his innings was studded with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Batting legend MS Dhoni struggled to get going. The CSK skipper could not score even a single boundary in his 27-ball stay out in the middle, and scratched his way to 18.

Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers for the Delhi Capitals (DC). The left arm spinner scalped 2 wickets in his 4 overs, and gave away only 18 runs. The likes of Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a wicket each. With this victory, the Delhi Capitals have moved to the top of the points table, while CSK are placed at the second spot.
