The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) outplayed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side in every department of the game and thrashed the Kane Williamson led side with 6 wickets and 2 balls to spare.

Chasing a target of just 116, the Kolkata side lost their batting talisman, Venkatesh Iyer, for just 8 runs. The left-hander went for a wild slog off the bowling of Jason Holder, the ball went high in the air, and Kane Williamson completed a good catch at mid-off.

Rahul Tripathi was the next man to be dismissed. The right-handed batsman pulled a short delivery from Rashid Khan straight to the fielder at mid-wicket and departed after scoring just 7. But then, Shubman Gill applied himself and scored a superb 57 off 51 deliveries to turn the match in favour of his side.

Nitish Rana helped himself to 25 off 33 deliveries. Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan stayed till the end to help KKR past the finish line. With the ball, Jason Holder picked up 2 wickets, while the likes of Siddarth Kaul and Rashid Khan scalped a wicket each for SRH.

Batting first, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side produced a dismal performance. Not even a single SRH batsman could cross the 30-run mark, as the ‘Orange Army’ struggled their way to 115/8 in 20 overs. Kane Williamson was the top scorer for the SRH side and scored a 21-ball 26.

Abdul Samad chipped in with 25 off 18 deliveries as well. The KKR bowlers were superb with the ball. Tim Southee, Shivam Mavi, and Varun Chakravarthy scalped 2 wickets each while Shakib Al Hasan picked up a solitary scalp. With this victory, the KKR side has moved to the 4th spot in the points table, while the SRH side is languishing at the last place.

Glenn Maxwell’s fireworks propel RCB to a victory over PBKS

In the afternoon match, the Punjab Kings once again ended up on the wrong side of a tense match. Chasing a target of 165 set by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) outfit, the Punjab side was cruising at 81/0 after 10 overs.

But then, the KL Rahul-led side lost wickets at regular intervals, and in the end, fell short of the target by just 6 runs. Mayank Agarwal was the top scorer for the Punjab side and scored a splendid 42-ball 57. KL Rahul chipped in with a sedate 39 off 35 deliveries.

However, none of the other batsmen stepped up to the task, and the Punjab side ended up on the losing side. Yuzvendra Chahal produced a superb performance with the ball, and picked up 3 wickets in his quota of 4 overs, giving away 29 runs.

Earlier, Glenn Maxwell’s blistering 33-ball 57 propelled the RCB side to a total of 164/7. The Aussie was in the mood for destruction and struck 3 fours and 4 sixes in his stay out in the middle. Apart from Maxwell, Devdutt Padikkal also scored a 38-ball 40 at the top of the order.

On the bowling front, Mohammed Shami and Moises Henriques scalped 3 wickets each for the PBKS outfit. With this win, the RCB side has moved to 3rd place in the points table, while the Punjab side is placed at the 5th spot.
