The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are back to their vintage self. The ‘Men in Yellow’ were fiery with the ball, athletic on the field, and clinical with the willow as they walloped the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side in the 8th match of IPL 2021. After restricting the KL Rahul-led side to 106/8, the Chennai batsmen came out all guns blazing and chased down the target with 6 wickets and 4.2 overs to spare.
Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis were the two men who steered the MS Dhoni-led side to a scintillating victory with the bat. While the left-handed Ali scored 46 off 31 deliveries, Du Plessis helped himself to an unbeaten 36. While Suresh Raina was dismissed for 8, Ruturaj Gaikwad scratched around for 16 balls and was dismissed for just 5 runs. Ambati Rayudu departed for a duck.
Shah Rukh Khan rescues Punjab Kings from embarrassment
The Punjab Kings (PBKS) produced a shoddy display with the willow. In their allotted 20 overs, the KL Rahul led side posted a mediocre total of just 106/8. In fact, the Punjab Kings were reeling at 26/5 at one stage, as Deepak Chahar ripped through their top order, and scalped 4 wickets in his 4 overs, and gave away only 13 runs.
Also, out of Punjab’s top five, none of the batsmen could even cross 10 runs. But then, Shah Rukh Khan saved the day for the Punjab side. The 25-year-old right-hander blasted a scintillating 47 off 36 deliveries to propel Punjab past the 100-run mark.
The CSK side was also extremely agile on the field. Ravindra Jadeja in particular set the field on fire. It was Jadeja’s bullet throw that caught KL Rahul short of his ground. Jadeja also dived forward to take a sensational catch to dismiss the dangerous Chris Gayle off the bowling of Deepak Chahar. All in all, CSK have opened their account in the 2021 edition of the IPL.
