IPL Retention: Daredevils retain three players for 2018 season
Delhi have only INR 47 crore left in their auction purse now.
The Delhi Daredevils have made a bold move by retaining three players at the IPL 2018 player retention. The IPL Governing Council had set the date of January 4, 2018 as the cut off date for the franchises to announce their retained players ahead of the auctions. All teams were allowed a maximum of three players to retain prior to the auctions.
Amidst this backdrop, it was being speculated that the Delhi Daredevils would not be using all their three retentions. The primary reason behind this being the fact that their core group of cricketers have never remained the same. Moreover, they have tasted very little success with the players their have shown perennial faith in.
At the same time, the names of a few cricketers who could potentially be retained were floating in the media. And now, as it stands out, the double Ds have shelled out a whopping INR 33 crore to retain the services of three capped players.
The first retention for team Delhi was a surprising one. Young Delhi batsman Rishabh Pant was retained for INR 15 crore. He, however, will get a league fee of INR 8 crore. Pant was one of the rising stars of the dwindling Delhi Daredevils campaign last season.
The second retention for the Daredevils is South African all-rounder Chris Morris. Morris has played some herculean knocks in the IPL and has been taking the new ball for the DD side occasionally. His retention for INR 11 crore looks justified. He will retain INR 7.1 crore as his tournament fees. The last retention made by the DD camp was young Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer. Iyer had rose to prominence after his stellar show for the Delhi outfit a couple of seasons ago.
Money left in the purse
Iyer recently made his international debut and would be soaring high on confidence. He has been retained for INR 7 crore. Along with Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, DD retained three players ahead of the auctions. They have INR 47 crore left in their purse for the auctions. Also, they can use 2 Right to Match cards at the auctions now out of the three permissible ones.
