IPL: Sunrisers Hyderabad bring in Brad Haddin as their assistant coach
Haddin was previously a part of the KKR in 2011 when he played only one match.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has roped in Brad Haddin as their new assistant coach. Haddin, also a former Australian cricketer, is set to join Trevor Bayliss, who was earlier picked as the franchise’s head coach in the SRH support, as per reports in ESPNcricinfo. Haddin will take over from Simon Helmot, who was appointed by the Orange Army way back in March 2013.
Bayliss, the 2019 World Cup-winning coach, and Haddin have previously worked for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), though their stints were separate. Bayliss was the KKR coach from 2012 to 2015, leading them to a couple of championships in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Haddin was a part of the Knight Riders back in 2011 when he was picked at an auction price of $325,000.
Haddin was the skipper when Bayliss was the coach of the Sydney Sixers, who won the 2012 edition of the Champions League in South Africa. Haddin also has the experience of working with the Australian team. Back in August 2017, the experienced campaigner was appointed as their fielding coach for a two-year period after coaching Australia A in the same year.
Sunrisers’ previous campaign in brief
The Sunrisers didn’t have the best of seasons last year, though they managed to qualify for the playoffs. The team was captained by Bhuvneshwar Kumar as well as Kane Williamson. The same was for the reason that Williamson, also the skipper of the New Zealand team, came into the tournament with an injury that he developed in the home series against Bangladesh.
In the round-robin stage, they managed to win six out of their 14 matches and made their way through to the next round. KKR and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) also ended with 12 points, but the Sunrisers had a superior Net Run Rate. However, their journey finished in the Eliminator.
Delhi Capitals (DC), led by Shreyas Iyer, beat them by two wickets in Visakhapatnam to pull the curtains down on their campaign. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow played exceptionally for them but had to leave the team in May in order to prepare themselves for the 2019 World Cup.
