IPL teams and their International twins: IPL teams have had their ups and down in the tournament in the last 8 years. We have had teams that have been come true to their name and expectations, some have stayed consistent throughout and a few who have maintained the bottom spot. So we decided to balance them against international teams. Take a look at the comparison drawn between IPL teams and the International cricket teams which they have played like.

Chennai Super Kings is a side that every team in the IPL wants to beat. It has the likes of MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and R Jadeja who have been instrumental in their success over the years. This side has been unmoved from the top position and won the title twice from the 8 seasons they have played. On the International platform, it can be compared to Australia which has been ruling cricket with five world cups in their account. The Aussies have been unbeatable, and they have players that are true match winners much like the CSK.  They have the much needed firepower in batting with Warner, Maxwell and Smith in the batting department and Johnson and Starc who can run through any side in the world. These teams have not only have performed similarly in their territories, but their outfits have the same colour as well.

The Kolkata Knight Riders have performed better after a debacle in the first season. They had the likes of Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan in the batting department and Morne Morkel, Sunil Narine, who are crucial for their team&#8217;s successful run in the 5th and 7th editions of the tournament. The characteristics of the team are more similar to the India cricket team than any other team. India also has similar number of world cups in their tally and has almost the same balance like the KKR. In the batting order, they have Rohit and Dhawan amongst whom one is more of a stroke maker and another one is aggressive. The same is the case with the KKR opening team. India relies heavily on the off-spinner Ashwin and so does the KKR with Sunil Narine.

Sri Lankans are fighters and have all the resources that a good team should have, but the results don&#8217;t always come in their favour. This is exactly the case with Mumbai Indians, and they have a well-balanced side with Rohit leading the batting and good fielders like Pollard and Rayudu. They have won the title once in the 2013 which is the same number of times the Lankans have clinched the WC trophy. The Lankans have the habit of fighting hard and just tend to lose it at critical moments, and the Mumbai side has been struggling with the same problem.

South Africa is never short of talent, but the winning luck has never favoured them. They have done all the right things to reach the semi-finals in the major tournaments, but have just not crossed the line. The same has been the story of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. They have reached the finals of IPL in 2009 and 2011, but the opposition snatched away the titles from the hands of RCB on the both the occasions.

5. Kings XI Punjab – New Zealand:

Kings XI is the team that has been struggling to make it to the playoffs from the beginning of the IPL. The only time they have put up a good show was in the 7th edition. They made it to the finals and on the international level their traits are quite close to those of New Zealand.  The Kiwis had reached finals in the CWC’15 and even though they had played good cricket throughout, their key players did not play to their potential when it mattered the most.  The Kings XI  had some big names like Glenn Maxwell, Marsh, Bailey and others who are capable of turning the game on its head on their day, but they have just not been consistent enough to produce the desired results.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was previously Deccan Chargers, is the most unpredictable side in the IPL. They are in many ways identical to the Pakistan team in the International cricket.  They have had the best moments under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist when they won the title in the second edition of the IPL. The Pakistan side, even though, has been surrounded by controversies but still can beat any side on their day and make a comeback from any position and their best days came under the captaincy of Imran Khan.

7. Delhi Daredevils – England:

Delhi Daredevils reached the semi-finals stage in the first two editions of the tournament, but their performance in the subsequent matches was far from impressive. England has similar characteristics, they had some fantastic bowlers and reached the finals of the world cup on three occasions, but they have not been able to get the final result in their favour. DD has numerous captains leading the side and due to the non- performance of their side and various other reasons and this aspect of the team are also alike to England which for a significant part did not have a steady captain.

Rajasthan was one team that nobody expected to clinch the title in the inaugural season. They did not have the big names but, under the able guidance of the Aussie leg-spinner Shane Warne as skipper and coach they outperformed most of the teams that had world class players. Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was previously Deccan Chargers, is the most unpredictable side in the IPL. They are in many ways identical to the Pakistan team in the International cricket.  They have had the best moments under the captaincy of Adam Gilchrist when they won the title in the second edition of the IPL. The Pakistan side, even though, has been surrounded by controversies but still can beat any side on their day and make a comeback from any position and their best days came under the captaincy of Imran Khan.
7. Delhi Daredevils – England:

Delhi Daredevils reached the semi-finals stage in the first two editions of the tournament, but their performance in the subsequent matches was far from impressive. England has similar characteristics, they had some fantastic bowlers and reached the finals of the world cup on three occasions, but they have not been able to get the final result in their favour. DD has numerous captains leading the side and due to the non- performance of their side and various other reasons and this aspect of the team are also alike to England which for a significant part did not have a steady captain.
8. Rajasthan Royals – West Indies :

Rajasthan was one team that nobody expected to clinch the title in the inaugural season. They did not have the big names but, under the able guidance of the Aussie leg-spinner Shane Warne as skipper and coach they outperformed most of the teams that had world class players. Their performance is close to that of West Indies side that has only grown to be a better side from the past few years, if not in the longer formats surely in the shortest.
West Indies have upset most of the big nations in major tournaments and at one stage they were treated as one of those teams which can be easily beaten. They have a World T20 win to their name to be proud off. WI has gradually become a side that can win matches if they play to their potential and RR has been doing the same in IPL. RR and WI stand equals with a title win in their journey, the less recognition and more effort factor balances both the teams to be termed similar.

IPL teams and their International twins: IPL teams have had their ups and down in the tournament in the last 8 years. We have had teams that have been come true to their name and expectations, some have stayed consistent throughout and a few who have maintained the bottom spot.
