In a very unusual turn of events, few people in Mumbai were scammed by a man claiming to be a ticket vendor for the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.
The man claimed to be a ticket vendor and showed the tickets to Faisal, the victim. Faisal, who was exploring the city and moving near the Wankhede Stadium, saw the printed price of Rs. 2000 on the ticket and the ticket seemed to be an original one with the ticket price, logo and the bar code on it. Believing the vendor to be genuine, Faisal decided to buy 3 tickets and gave Rs. 6000 to the vendor. The fact that the vendor asked only for the printed price and did not charge any extra money convinced the victim that he was an official seller of the ticket.
When the time arrived for the two fancied teams of IPL playing in Mumbai, Faisal arrived at the venue with his friends only to be disappointed. He was stopped at the ticket scanning center and was informed that the tickets were fake. A disheartened Faisal could only tear up the ticket into pieces before leaving the venue. He went outside to look out for the vendor but in vain.
He saw a few more vendors selling the tickets openly but decided not to buy the tickets again and went back. With such incidences taking place, it is only advisable now to take the tickets only from the authorised centers and the ticket counters. Never believe any vendor claiming to be a ticket seller nor try to buy the tickets in black.
Wasim, a friend of Faisal, while talking to CricketCountry about the incidence said, “Faisal is a cricket fanatic and he wanted to watch a game live in Mumbai. The ticket seller who approached Faisal was well groomed and looked a nice guy to him. The fact that he didn’t demand any extra money convinced Faisal and the seller and assured that he will be present at the same spot for every game and people can buy tickets from him if it’s not available online. They had no idea what trap they were getting into.”
