Rajiv Shukla, the Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman has said that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to push their player auctions by a year, and host the full fledged auction in the year 2017.
The franchisees were informed that IPL season 2016 and 2017 will continue to remain an eight team event and the bidding for the two new teams for these seasons will start after the BCCI AGM on 9th November 2015.
Shukla also informed that the base price of the two new teams is expected to be Rs 40 crore. However hea made it clear that Rajasthan and Kochi have been kept out from the pool of cities, the teams can bid for.
“The IPL Governing Council decided to leave out Jaipur and Kochi as franchise venues,” Shukla said. ”It will be a walk in bid on December 8. The base price for reverse bid from central revenue pool is Rs 40 crore and the party which bids for lowest share from central revenue pool will be the winner of new team. Invitation to tender documents have been finalised and will be put up for clearance before AGM tomorrow,” Shukla said.
BCCI’s vice-president T.C. Mathew had earlier said that the tenders would be floated soon after the annual general meeting (AGM). “There is no doubt that there would be a good number of applications as it has been decided to select two new teams to replace Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals who remain suspended for two years,” Mathew had said.
