The speculations about the Indian Premier League (IPL) losing its charm this season were rife and many people tagged the tournament as the most ‘boring’ one so far. But now with the tournament reaching its business end, the viewership has grown manifold as per the latest reports.

The third week of the IPL 9 has seen an upsurge of viewership and it wouldn’t be wrong to say the tournament has started clicking the right pace now. It has reached viewership of 297 million in its third week itself. Sony Max, Sony Six and Sony ESPN, part of Sony Pictures Networks India, the official broadcasters of the cash-rich domestic Twenty20 tournament, drew audiences in large numbers in the third week of the T20 cricket tournament after 25 matches.

With 927.4 GVM is 234 percent better than the second most viewed channel in prime time at an all-India level, and with 676.2 GVM is 203 percent better than the second most viewed channel in HSM.

The major areas where the market has seen a significant rise coming into the third week of the tournament are Mumbai, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra.

Earlier, the Television Viewer Ratings (TVR) for this edition of the IPL were recorded as the second lowest of the season so far with a TVR of 3.5 as compared to 4.5 last year. The 2014 edition of the IPL saw the poorest television ratings, that of 3.1. The 2012 edition of the IPL had the rating of 4.6 while the 2013 edition had seen a drop to 3.8.
